11:15 am – 11:35 am

TECH TALK 1: HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN A WORLD LED BY AI AND AUTOMATION

Automation and AI driven conversational UX will be the next big area of focus for marketers – including recruitment marketers. Marketers will optimize their process for the outcome, often forgetting the importance of the steps in between and the unintended consequences that come with any paradigm shifting technology (and widespread adoption). Probably the best, most recent example of this was social media. Marketers were optimized for follower growth and around content calendars designed to keep these audiences engaged. Because this was such an attractive opportunity, every marketer followed suit. What happened as a byproduct is their audiences got too big – too broad – and as a result their content calendars became less focused. The social networks noticed lessening engagement and moved to algorithmic timelines that deemphasized brand content and much of the work marketers did to build their audiences was wasted.

Attendees will learn to think about how they implement AI and automation into their workflow into a way that considers the likelihood that all of their competitors are doing the same. They’ll gather tips on how to create the conditions to be successful in a world led by AI and Automation.

The goal of the session is to share what we’ve learned thinking about, building, and implementing AI and Automation solutions for our customers and for ourselves to help other employers avoid some of the mistakes we’ve made.

Todd Maycunich - Vice President, Product Innovation, TMP Labs

TECH TALK 4: 5 KEY IT CHALLENGES TO OVERCOME IN A SCALING ORGANIZATION

Big things are expected from successful scale-up companies. And big things are expected from their people. But how can fast-growing, scaling companies make sure they have the right support and technology in place to support their people and business growth?

Although booming, scale-up organizations are often experts when it comes to using the power of technology in their products, this isn’t always reflected in their internal systems. So, join us to discover:

  • How successful scale ups are using IT and technology to help, rather than hinder, growth
  • Five unescapable technology challenges faced by scale up organisations, and how to overcome them
  • Why – and how – scale up companies must use technology to create better experiences for their biggest asset for growth: their people

Paul Burrin - Vice President, Sage People

1:35 pm – 1:55 pm

TECH DEMO 5: OPTIMIZING EMPLOYEE BENEFITS IN THE DATA ECONOMY

How is your benefit plan performing? Do you know what your claims experience was last month or how your plan is trending? When you receive your next renewal report, how will you verify that it’s correct? Effortless Admin empowers you to answer these questions and equips your advisor with the information and market reach necessary to serve you properly.

We believe that employers should be able to offer best in class (including multi-carrier) benefit plans, retain the benefits advisor of their choice, have effortless benefits administration to keep operations efficient and scalable, and be equipped with ongoing, detailed, and accurate analytics.

The market is ready for this reality. The challenge is that managing the industry’s data streams is difficult. Instead, employers are increasingly faced with a simple trade off: Increased data analytics in exchange for decreased market access. Technology solutions and administration companies focus on offering a richer data experience in connection with a restricted set of advisors and carriers.

We at Effortless see things differently. We believe that in today’s data economy, employers are ready to be at the center of the benefits marketplace so that they can work more effectively with their advisors and carriers.

Come see our Tech Talk to learn how we do this.

David Reid - Chief Technology Officer, Effortless Admin Inc.

HOW HR LEADERS CAN DRIVE ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE AND TRANSFORM THEIR ENTERPRISES THROUGH ORGANIZATIONAL NETWORK ANALYSIS (ONA)

THE POWER OF A PERSONAL VISION TO DRIVE INNOVATION

Grace Hopper once said, “The most dangerous phrase in language is: We’ve always done it this way.“ Never has this been more true. In this age of rapid technological advancement, thoughtful leadership is needed to serve external customers with products and services they will need, before they even know they need them.

Innovation used to be in the hands of the ‘experts’ but today it requires everyone to think about the future with unbounded imagination, creativity, and curiosity. In this session you will find out how to create your personal vision of the future, to engage others in an exciting mission to grow the business over the long-term, and advance purpose and meaning for all. You will walk away with:

  • A clear understanding of the importance of holding a personal vision
  • Five must-ask questions to help you crystalize your vision
  • A proven path to becoming more strategic that has nothing to do with position or authority
  • Techniques to communicate, influence, and engage others in your vision and plan

THE HUMAN SIDE OF HIRING

When it comes to the the impact of technology on recruiting, it seems that job seekers have seriously mixed emotions. According to a recent survey conducted on behalf of Indeed, 58% of people agree that technology makes it easier to apply for a job — but 52% also say technology makes the recruiting process more isolating and impersonal.

There’s no doubt that technology will continue to transform hiring as we move into the future. So as recruiters become increasingly dependent on software and algorithms in the hiring process, how can we be sure that we are using these new tools wisely, and in a way that leads to a positive experience for candidates?

Employees believe that new technologies and innovations would benefit their ability to perform their job if introduced by their employers.

As an HR professional, are you harnessing the full potential of technology and driving innovation within your organization?

Predicting the future of work continues to be top of mind for most if not all organizations. The world is transforming quickly and if your organization falls behind, you risk losing it all, including your most important asset, your people.

HACKATHONS AS AN INNOVATION TOOL FOR LARGE ENTERPRISES

Contrary to popular belief, hackathons aren’t just for start-ups. For large organizations in particular, hackathons can be adapted to greatly accelerate the process of digital transformation. They are less about designing new products and more about “hacking” away at old processes and ways of working. More and more large businesses are employing the same start-up principles to break through organizational inertia and instill more innovation-driven cultures putting their employees at the centre of their organizations and giving them a start-up experience.

In this session, Aurélie Wen of Agorize will teach you everything you need to know about hackathons, how to build one and how HR can utilize this powerful innovation tool to solve all kinds of business and people-related challenges. Under discussion:

This session has all the answers you need when it comes to:

  • Hackathons 101: What exactly is a 'hackathon?'
  • How and why large enterprises should harness the power of hackathons including case study examples
  • How HR can build their own hackathon: things to consider and keep in mind
  • How to get the buy-in from senior stakeholders

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION IN TECH: HOW INNOVATIVE COMPANIES COMBAT UNCONSCIOUS HIRING BIAS

Diversity and inclusion is one of the biggest challenges facing the tech industry today - from the talent pipeline to products and services. Martin Hauck, former Head of Talent at StackAdapt and Toronto D&I trailblazer, decided to take the reins and tackle this issue by making the recruiting process more inclusive with the help of creating StackAdapt’s Unbiasify tool.

Unbiasify is a free, open-source Google Chrome extension that removes a candidate's profile photo and name on social networks with the end goal of eliminating any unconscious bias that can potentially tarnish the recruitment process such as bias towards or against specific age, race, gender, or appearance.

However, despite solving a number of common recruiting challenges, Unbiasify also created a set of whole other issues. And, Martin Hauck is here to tell us all about it! Under discussion:

  • The story behind Unbiasify’s creation
  • Key lessons learned from using Unbiasify
  • How can we tackle all problems in relation to D&I?
  • Can we ever fully remove unconscious biases that are ingrained in our psychology?
  • How can we build diverse and inclusive teams with and without the help of technology?
  • And more!

WHAT IS A TRUE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND HOW CAN BUSINESS AND HR LEADERS MOVE IT FORWARD?

Companies who want to lead a digital transformation need strong leadership, agility, and a forward-looking vision. Putting digital first and understanding the role digital plays in your business is key to becoming a successful leader regardless of what area of business you are in.

We often think about digital transformation as something tackled by IT, Marketing and C-suite. However, HR can be and should be a key enabler of digital transformation. It’s people, after all, rather than technology, that drive change.

So how do HR and business leaders utilise this critical people function for this purpose? This session has the answers. Under discussion:

  • Why now more than ever HR needs to be at the digital transformation strategy table
  • Why organizations need the leadership and expertise of HR to move through this change
  • How can technology, digital, business and HR executives all work together to transform organizations?

PANEL DISCUSSION: ADDRESSING TECH’S ETHICAL DARK SIDE: HOW CAN WE ENSURE THAT AI IS USED FOR THE GOOD?

TBD Panelists: Tech leader; AI public policy specialist; professor of computer science or ethics

Artificial intelligence is heralded as a potential saviour to the world's most complex problems. But it also raises questions around its ethics. We can’t help but wonder: as the robot revolution is gaining pace, is it running in line with our values? Will the robot apocalypse lead to the downfall of humankind (no hyperbole intended …)?

One thing is definitely certain: Artificial intelligence has vast potential. Its responsible implementation is up to us!

This closing panel will address the ethical issues that are keeping business leaders and the AI experts up at night – mainly how we can ensure that AI is being used for the good in the world and in the workplaces. Questions under discussion:

  • What are the real benefits and risks of AI at work?
  • Change manager. Educator. Cultural champion. Why AI needs HR?
  • How do we deal with the top ethical dilemmas in adopting AI technology at work (data rights and privacy, bias, error correction)?
  • How can HR be a critical business partner in the due diligence process and implementation of AI-enabled technology?
